Who are Tewantin-Noosa Lions?
- People who give their time freely to serve others.
- Dedicated to the welfare of others less fortunate.
- People who also value the friendship and sociability of belonging to a group of like-minded individuals.
- Ordinary people who belong to the world’s largest service organisation.
Tewantin-Noosa Lions Club has over 40 members, both male and female, who share a desire to get involved in community projects and events, and help raise funds for local charities and individuals in need.
We also have our Friends of Lions group who help out at some of our larger events.
History
The Tewantin–Noosa Lions Club was chartered on 4th April 1967. Since then, the Club has grown enormously and now has now close to 50 Members. You can read a full history of the club here
As one of over 50,000 Lions Clubs around the world, we are part of Lions Clubs International (LCI) which was formed in 1917 and is now the world’s largest service club, with over 1.4 million members in 200 countries and regions. The Lions motto is “We Serve”. Individual Lions Clubs have a high degree of autonomy, so act independently of LCI while still supporting their objectives.
The Lions Clubs International Foundation provides support for international disasters using its network of clubs. When disaster strikes LCIF provides aid and assistance via the clubs local to the event, who ensure that essential help is provided efficiently. We donate some of our fundraising to LCIF.
In 1970 Tewantin–Noosa Lions Club erected a small temporary stage in a park area on Gympie Terrace, so they could run concerts, particularly an annual Country Music Festival. Over the years the stage gradually evolved and the park became known as the Lions Park.

What Do We Do?
Fundraising
Many years ago our members helped Noosa Council with the development of a recreation area at Noosa Heads. In recognition of our help the council named it “Noosa Heads Lions Park”. During peak holiday periods we are allowed to open it for car parking to alleviate the shortage of parking spaces in Noosa. We charge the public for parking and all funds raised go to our charity account.
We also raise funds from our catering vans, which we use at various events during the year to sell fast food. Again, all funds raised go to our charity account.
See some of our past events on the What We’ve Done page.
Community
We serve our local community of Tewantin and Noosa with pride, compassion and kindness. Our aim is to support the local community and help those in need and the most vulnerable. We do this in a variety of ways:
- Recycle for Sight: We collect unused spectacles and hearing aids and recycle them to developing countries. See more here
- Australia Day: We organise and run the annual Australia Day commemoration on 26 January in Lions Park on Gympie Terrace.
- Individuals in Need: We receive requests for assistance for individuals from either personal contact or referrals from social services or other charities.
- Voluntary Organisations: If a voluntary organisation is in need of financial or practical help we assist them wherever possible
- Worldwide: we donate a small proportion of our funds to the Lions Club International Foundation whose mission is “to empower Lions clubs, volunteers and partners to improve health and wellbeing, strengthen communities, and support those in need through humanitarian service and grants that impact lives globally, and encourage peace and international understanding“.
When Do We Meet?
We meet at 6:30pm on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at Tewantin Noosa RSL Club for our main business meeting, where we agree the ways in which we can support the community.
We also hold numerous social events for our members. You can see some of our past events at Having Fun
